This edition looked at family time – when parents and their baby spend time together after the baby has been taken into care but a final decision about where the baby should live long term has not been decided. Family time should encourage and support bonding between the parents and their baby, as well as providing opportunities to model responsive and caring behaviours for parents who may need support with this. Research on family time was highlighted and examples of how different local authorities approach family time to support and sustain relationships between mothers and babies (including two case studies) were shared.
Newborn babies and care proceedings was a bulletin for professionals involved in safeguarding babies at or close to birth that provided links to a range of resources to assist them in this complex area of work.
