Newborn babies and care proceedings bulletin 12 – Maternal mental health

Research has shown high levels of mental health problems among mothers whose babies are involved in care proceedings at or shortly after birth. This edition presented findings from studies on maternal mental health in pregnancy and during the first year post-birth. It also covered the approaches and interventions that some support services use to address maternal mental health issues and the impact of complex trauma.

Newborn babies and care proceedings was a bulletin for professionals involved in safeguarding babies at or close to birth that provided links to a range of resources to assist them in this complex area of work.
