Join us as we explore how an understanding of people’s lived experience can be built into the development of new services provided by local authorities, charities or the family court.
In this lunchtime talk, we’ll be joined by Pauline Wigglesworth, Director of Blackpool Council’s Health Determinants Research Collaboration. We’ll be talking to Pauline about her passion for research evidence and co-producing solutions to challenges and problems with the people who are affected.
Pauline was successful in attracting National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funding for Blackpool to create one of the first Health Determinants Research Collaborations (HDRCs), which aim to create the infrastructure in local authorities to enable them to become evidence-driven organisations. Pauline is passionate about co-producing solutions to local problems with and for local people, and the HDRC has been created on this platform. She has integrated lived experience co-researchers into the fabric of the HDRC and is working to ensure that Blackpool Council can develop its research capacity with the community.
Pauline has been integral to the Blackpool Born into Care group in its work to develop a therapeutic model to support parents who have appeared in recurrent care proceedings and have had multiple children removed from their care (Blackpool Council was a partner in the national Born into Care project and in the development of the subsequent best practice guidelines). She has also been leading on tentative discussions about the possibility and suitability of a problem-solving baby court in Blackpool, which would focus solely on hearing care cases involving babies and infants up to three years old. The court would have many of the same features as the Family Drug & Alcohol Court (FDAC).
Having worked for Blackpool Council for 18 years, Pauline has held several senior positions, including HeadStart Programme Lead and Development Director of the Blackpool Place Based Partnership Board.
