Family Justice 2030: What a Child needs

The family justice system makes life-changing decisions about children’s lives. Yet as a system, it is described as not serving children and families well.

We would like to invite you to join us for a webinar we are hosting – Family Justice 2030: What a Child Needs. The purpose of the event is to bring professionals together to reflect and reimagine the future of the family justice system and hear from some of the leading thinkers in this space. The event is aimed at all those working in and around the family courts, including social workers, solicitors, barristers, judges and magistrates.

We will ask, how can this system serve children and families better, so they thrive? How can we engage children and young people in decisions about their lives within a system that treats people fairly and equitably? How can children guide our thinking to create a system that works for everyone? The event comes at a time when the government is preparing a strategy for the family justice system.

Nuffield Family Justice Observatory’s mission is to improve the lives of the children and families who come through the family justice system. We use data and research, and listen to the lived experience of children, parents, and professionals, to find ways to improve practice and policy.

The event marks the launch of our new five-year strategy.

Family Justice 2030: What a Child needs will be held online on Wednesday 3 June 2026 at 4.30pm through to 6pm.
