Born into care Wales: newborns and infants in care proceedings in Wales

Born into care Wales provides the first analysis of infants and newborn babies in care proceedings in Wales – the volumes of cases, incidence rates, and variation by area and over time, together with case characteristics and legal order outcomes. It follows the publication of Born into care: newborns in care proceedings in England published in October 2018.

The report is being published by the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory and has been written by researchers from the Centre for Child and Family Justice at Lancaster University and Population Data Science at Swansea University. The Cafcass Cymru data used in the study will be available in the SAIL Databank at Swansea University, Swansea, UK.

To mark the launch of this report, we are holding an invite-only stakeholder event in Cardiff. The report findings will be presented and there will be time to discuss the policy and practice implications, as well as the next steps.
